This book offers a literal translation of Questions 1-14 in Qí Zhòngfǔ’s 齊仲甫 Nǚ Kē Bǎi Wèn 《女科百問》 (“Hundred Questions on Gynecology,” published in 1220 CE) on the theoretical foundations and menstrual conditions, with the Chinese text side-by-side with the English translation. It also includes a detailed historical introduction on the early history of gynecology in China, extensive commentaries by Sabine Wilms on the essays and formulas, a preface and clinical notes by Sharon Weizenbaum, medicinal and formula tables, and beautiful photos of the author’s home on Whidbey Island.
Please note that we have started shipping US and international orders on May 12! The book will also be for sale directly at the Rothenburg Congress in Germany (May 28-June 1), along with all my other books.
This book, a translation of the fifth chapter in the Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic, Plain Questions (Huang Di Nei Jing, Su Wen 黃帝內經，素問) offers a rare glimpse into a radically different way of interacting with the world from the perspective of ancient Chinese medicine, philosophy, and cosmology through a conversation between the mythological Yellow Emperor and his medical advisor that was recorded about two thousand years ago. Dr. Wilms combines her elegant literal translations with a wide selection of medical commentaries and quotations from philosophical and cosmological texts, as well as her personal insights, based on three decades of sinological scholarship and many years of teaching Chinese medicine students.
It’s been almost a year since my last update on this page, and it has been a very busy but good one, this being my first year of island living. There is no turning back for me. After moving yet again, I am finally settled in what I hope to be a more permanent home, a sweet walk from a very quiet beach where I go swimming in the open sea almost every day. Here are the latest professional developments on Happy Goat Productions and Imperial Tutor:
t's been a beautiful late summer and early fall here in my new home on Whidbey Island, just north of Seattle. In spite of the distractions from the glorious sunshine, my team and I have been hard at work laying the foundations for some new projects.
